I highly recommend I don't know for sure about a 2 stroke. But I put one on 09 kxf vortex. I honestly think that is the best bolt on mod you could do for a bike. If there was only one mod I could do to a bike that would be it. It makes the bike run so much crisper and gives it much more of a response off the throttle.

I know on a four stroke it add quite a few more rpm's. Advances the timing and makes it rev faster. Absolutely amazing product. Are there any other CDI's which are cheaper than the Vortex, but work just as well? Or is Vortex pretty much the best CDI you could buy?

I've heard great things about the Vortex, but nothing about any others. Vortex is. GET makes ignitions. Best mod you can get. Vortex is one of the cheaper ones. But they are the best in my opinion.

I'd love to have a fresh ignition on it. The Black Ops Coil I installed worked great. My original stator melted down after restoring the bike. I guess old electrical is bound to fail. I ordered a Ricky Stator stator and it would start, but not run when rolling on the throttle. I bought an extra used CDI unit, it it did the same thing and the coil checked out with a multi-meter. The stock flywheel uses a woodruff key to position it, but the HPI flywheel does not have a woodruff key groove.

Standard YZ250 CDI vs Vortex CDI?

Those ignitions have been known to produce less voltage than a stock one on some cases which may be your problem, but you can increase the voltage by moving the pickup closer to the rotor, They make some shims to do this with but this generates more heat and can cause premature failure of the pickup.

Stock ignitions are usually the best ad most reliable ones to use. If you have an external flywheel you can also machine the od down but leave a band around 6 mm wide of the original od to reduce the potential for it the flywheel to "swell up" at higher rpms.

I need to source everything so the HPI is actually a cheaper path. I started with a new Ricky Stator stator, but it would idle and die as soon as you tried to roll on the throttle. I played around with swapping CDI units, etc. So, I decided to get all new stuff that is designed to work together.Selecting the curve can be done by simply connecting or diconnecting these two wires, or by selecting the curve with a switch image on the right. Draw your own ignition curve with our TuneBox software, and program it into the CDI with the interface.

The TuneBox software is free, and the latest version can be downloaded from the link below. It is an exit which is able to draw 2 amperes to ground in 2 user defined RPM regions. This can be used to drive a valve or light at a desired RPM range.

This is an optional exit for most vehicles. If, however, the vehicle already uses this system, our CDIs will be equipped with this system as standard. This means no additional wires, as the system is implemented into the wiring loom or connector, as with the original CDI.

If the vehicle has no standard PowerJet installed, this exit comes as an extra wire. Users should build a valve system on their engines themselves. The shift delay system will retard or interrupt the ignition momentarily to release the transmission load. In this moment the rider can shift up without throttling down. The shift delay system comes as an additional 2 wire plug with counterpart and can be fully adjusted to be used with any input switch, which has to be installed by the user.

Use TuneBox to set the SD for normal open or normal closed switches. It is an optional input which will determine which advance curve will be selected. With TuneBox you will be able to draw 6 different advance curves.

The TPS will then decide which one is activated. The CDI will then select curve 1, which can be used for sound tests. Low throttle selects curve 2, full throttle selects curve 6.
